Chloe Kae: “Misconception”

January 24, 2020. Writer: Emma Kopelowicz

After stepping away from Australian electronic duo Kllo, singer Chloe Kae has released her first solo work, a gorgeous, silky-smooth new track called “Misconception.”

For this song, Kae collaborated with LA-based producer Machinedrum, who has worked with artists such as Theophilus London and Azealia Banks. “Misconception” smolders with Kae’s smoky vocals which float through the track’s sultry melody. Machinedrum works his magic with swirling synths and haunting piano as Kae swings between frustration and longing, reminiscing on a relationship that slowly crumbled. The emotive chords and slightly jazzy melodies on this track combined with Kae’s introspective lyrics are exceptionally breathtaking.

On this track, Kae embraces the kind of downtempo R&B that perfectly hugs her versatile voice. Her vocals are lofted to a point where they are perfectly balanced with the complex production of the song. Clearly, Machinedrum and her are onto something good.

Kae seems perfectly comfortable wading in a pool of her own feelings, and this track proves that she is willing to delve beneath the surface. While her new music retains some of the electronic flair of her previous work, it seems that the singer is willing to explore matching her voice to more alt-R&B melodies. The best is yet to come from Chloe Kae, and when it does, we’ll be ready.
