Singer, songwriter, and producer Little League is tired of hearing about your ex on his salty new single, “Not My Ex.”
The Indianapolis-native and self-described “aspiring plant parent” combines twinkling xylophone keys with tambourines and dazzling synths over cheeky beats. Little League, like many millennial musicians, has a soft spot for nostalgic video game noises which are featured throughout this track.
While the artist’s production style definitely airs on the bright and innocent side, his lyrics tell another story. “Don’t wanna talk about your ex cause he’s yours not mine,” Little League declares in the first five seconds of the song. Little League swears that he’s not trying to be insensitive, but he wishes that his lover would just let bygones be bygones. We can totally understand where he’s coming from.
The bright, airy rhythms on this track keep things light-hearted despite the singer’s frustration. At the end of each chorus he draws out the word “ex” with a slight hiss that sounds like a balloon slowly losing air. Could this be a possible allusion to Little League’s pent up tension or a foreshadowing moment to calling it quits with his SO? It’s all up to the mind of the beholder, but all we know is Little League definitely knows how to keep us on our toes.
