“WHOLEthing” feels like backseat riding with the slickest guys in town—HEwas’s
leisurely vibe and Afroman’s stoner ethos make for a memorable cruise.
Afroman, the Southern rapper known for his stoner classic, “Because I Got High,” is
well-known in hip-hop culture. His confidence oozes in his lines: “I find you attractive,
sexually active. Hold me down but don’t hold me captive. Suck me, fuck me, make me
lucky,” he declares in his usual carefree persona. HEwas, on the other hand, has only
recently introduced himself to the music world. This, nonetheless, never stops him from
reaching the same confidence as Afroman. His striking falsetto vocals in his refrains
reflect the attitude of a man who knows what he’s doing. Backed with deep bass
grooves and free spirit production, HEwas’s “WHOLEthing” could very well be the
chillest bop of the year.
